Three strikes,’ur out!
Three is the number of felonies that you have to commit in California to go to jail for life. No matter how small they are, steal some sweatpants from a shop because you’re desperate for money, or take some jewelery from a store, the third time you’re in for life. It seems kind of odd that in the land of the free with justice for all, somebody who is an alcoholic or a drug addict and needs money cannot get a second chance, or any type of rehabilitation. This, Im sure, shows on the tax payers bills, not only in California, but all over the country, because, as I have said before, about 2.1million americans are imprisoned in the united states. Some estimates show that 37%of black males have “prison experience”. Now, don’t get me wrong, I do not want alcoholics or druggies coming up to rob me on the street, but if they do go to jail, let it be for a few years only, and they should certainly receive state-funded rehabilitation, in a country where most state governments refuse to pay for many services such as rehab programs or homeless shelters.
