wow…
Not very tuned in lately to world news, so apart from somebody not being able to use $1.4billion to fiz some foam on a spacecraft, this is the only thing that really catched my eye in the world news. It was published in a Costa Rican newspaper. Apparently, while the special guards were making sure the president was safe, a group of robbers stole 30 computers that had been bought with prizes money and donations. How? They apparently covered the whole thing in underwear.:S The president should be thinking of far better security than that….( i apologise again for the weak post)hopefully the world panorama will get more interesting in the next few days!
Im in the USA as of yesterday, and like most people from Europe who come here, Obesity is one of the first things I noticed. I have been here before, and I know how hard it is to not eat too much( as I myself usually come back with a few extra pounds ) But this time I noticed something else. Americans(in general) do no exercise in terms of walking anywhere, especially. One of the first things to notice in US airports, are little electronic carts which, on the whole, carry people who are perfectly able to walk themselves. Sinks have no taps, because they work by a sensor. Everything here is designed to do the least work possible, and I am sure that it is a factor that greatly contributes to being overweight. “Oh,It’s very hard to lose the weight”, “I can’t do anythign abbout it, My family is overweight, so its in my genes” all sorts of comments like these serve to make ridiculous excuses but I know only too well that theyre stupid.I know people who come from families in which most people are overweight and they have made a huge effort to lose the weight. I apologise for the short post, but I do not know how much the hotel charges for internet and do not want to find myself with a surprise on the family bill. More posts on my american adventure soon!

This year, China will receive 50 million dollars from the canadian government as “foreign aid”. It seems stupid to give this money to a nation that has a booming economy,a huge army, and a space program, among others, and ridiculous that Canadian government has to rely on giving China aid so that their diplomatic relations continue to flourish.
Two days ago, the london police shot a “suspected terrorist” in the Underground railway. The “suspect” turned out to be a peaceful brazilian electrician whlo installed fire alarms for a living. The very moment that the foreign office and the London Police apologised to the public about an innocent death, extreme islamists around the world must have been cheering. What they seek is to seek fear, but at the same time to cause chaos in a city, confusion, and a sense of not trusting anybody. If the Police that is supposed to protect the civilians is now shooting them(whether it was for a good reason or not) it will give extremists a sense of victory, and this cannot happen, as it would mean that terrorism would prevail.
Rupert Murdoch is engulfing more and more companies worldwide. As they destroy more and more of the competition, they have almost full control of western(and some eastern)media, consequently controlling more and more people’s minds, with information which they are free to manipulate, showing only what they believe convenient for their political backers, private financers etc… This is not only happening with the media, but competition is being destroyed in many fields, such as Telecommunications(telefonica is rapidly taking over with their mobile phone operator Movistar) or even beer brewing(all the canadian beers are now owned by foreign, mainly US, companies.) I believe that mergers are a good thing, but when multi-billion dollar mergers happen between companies, which leave a monopoly, it is bad for competition and ultimately for the consumers themselves. The main concern is it happens in everything from Telecommunications to Make-up companies.
Mr.Osama bin Laden(still in hiding for those of you who had erased him from your minds) vowed to attack the United States and so he did. Over 3000 people died in the wtc crashes, but we know that story.
This week the economist magazine published an article on the increasingly good US-India relation, and how George Bush is quite ready to allow India into the “Nuclear club”, as it is commonly known. Not that this does not also apply to George Bush, but in my opinion India should be focusing on getting the millions that live in “bustees”, off the streets. Providing jobs for unemployed, medicine for the poor etc… should be a priority in a country where 6million people live on the street. Prime Minister Singh, is it really more important to have a nuclear bomb than it is to provide a decent living environment for your people, which would in turn help tourism and development in many areas??
The Revolutionary armed forces of Colombia attacked a convoy and killed 19 Colombian soldiers. This is yet another incident, which should make the authorities decide what position they want to take against these terrorists, who raid whole villages and drive whole areas of people (through fear) into the nearby ecuadorian border.
We were all surprised when US president George Bush nominated Paul Wolfowitz for head of the World Bank. The former deputy secretary of defence was one of the driving forces behind the Iraq war, and has always been a strong supporter of George W. This is why the world community was amazed when Wolfowitz took office on june 1st, and even more surprised by the speeches he made during his trip to Africa, where he showed that, not only was he ready for the job, but looked forward to helping the developing nations of the world with aid, etc… The question now is, whether his initial statements have been sincere or a futile way to change public view towards him. A good point is that he has already openly criticised methods that harm developing world agriculture, such as massive subsidies in medc’s (a common tecnique used by George W) We will have to wait for more events to unfold to decide wether Wolfowitz is working at the right place…
in one of the few breaks that the media gave this week with the olympics , london bombs, etc, i got a glimpse on the screen of a new bush plan to give social security for fetuses…this immediately seemed outrageous and funny, and i will try and look more into the subject. maybe they even get official ID cards with a small photo??
