food for thought

Three times as much money is being spent on penis enlargement and breast operations as is being spent on alzheimer disease. With statistics like these, I dont even want to look for comparisons between drug money and cancer/hiv aids research……

  2. This statistic is interesting, but then again, as Benjamin Disraeli once said ‘There are lies, there are damned lies, and there are statistics’.
It is, as I said befor, an interesting statistic, but there are other factors that break the connection between the two figures.
For example, the people who blow money on plastic surgery are not necessarily the people who fund alzheimer research, you know what I mean?
If the figure you state is so, then one must irrefutably come to the conclusion that a lot of people pour money into plastic surgery; more money than scientific laboratories count with to research a cure for alzheimer.
If the money to research alzhiemer comes from charities, then what you find is that there is a possibility that other charities are getting more money than alzheimers research. Does this mean that less money should be donated to, say, releif for the tsunami victims? I think this means that statistics are very interesting when placed together, but one must have a broad horizon and state of mind when dealing with them.
